Tampa: The Turning Point is a gripping, comprehensive account of the eight-day crisis, told directly through the candid accounts of those directly involved in the unfolding drama - from the refugees to the ship’s Captain, to the politicians, to the Prime Minister John Howard himself. Twenty-five years later, the series examines how the Tampa crisis transformed the treatment of asylum-seekers worldwide and continues to shape immigration policies across the globe
Following the screening, a panel of experts including researchers, advocates and those with lived experiences will unpack the experiences of asylum seekers and the real impacts policies had on them, while highlighting solutions and the support available for those who have been displaced or forced to migrate.

Tampa: The Turning Point will premiere on ABC TV on Tuesday 1 September at 8.30pm, with all episodes available to stream on ABC iview from 7am on Wednesday 26 August.
