“Living Water Oration Series: The Kevin Marshall Lecture” will reflect on the pioneering studies of microbial ecology by Professor Kevin Marshall and how his work continues to influence water research at UNSW. Speakers will reflect on how their work is informed by concepts of microbial colonisation of surfaces that were eloquently described in Marshall’s seminal monograph “Interfaces in Microbial Ecology”.

Renowned environmental biologist, Professor Nick Ashbolt from the Cooperative Research Centre for Solving Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Agribusiness, Food and Environments (SAAFE) will give the inaugural lecture. Panellists include Professor Adriana Verges, Professor Michael Manefield, Dr Raphael Paulino, and Dr Kaye Power.

“The Kevin Marshall Lecture” is the first oration in a four-part series as part of the exhibition Living Water: 75 years of water research at UNSW that recognises and celebrates past and present pioneers of water research at UNSW. While the exhibition surveys current UNSW work, the lecture series will, in turn, acknowledge the ongoing legacy of influential figures and impactful projects that continue to inform and shape water research today.

Living Water is a collaboration between UNSW Library and UNSW Global Water Institute with funding support from the Faculty of Arts, Design & ArchitectureFaculty of BusinessFaculty of EngineeringFaculty of Law & JusticeFaculty of Science, and UNSW Library.
