LIVESTREAM COVID-19 and Human Rights
The International Law Association (Australian Branch) and UNSW Sydney Faculty of Law are hosting a series seminars on COVID-19.
This seminar, hosted with the Australian Human Rights Institute at UNSW, will explore Australian and international dimensions to the impact of COVID-19 on human rights.
Speakers:
Elaine Pearson, Australia Director at Human Rights Watch and advisory committee member at the Australian Human Rights Institute, will be speaking on the human rights impacts of the COVID-19 response, especially in Asia, and how some authoritarian-leaning governments are exploiting the pandemic to tighten their grip on power.
Professor Louise Chappell, Director of the Australian Human Rights Institute, will be speaking about the human rights implications of Australia's response to COVID-19, and consider how our international obligations are being upheld or undermined during the pandemic.
Each presentation will be approximately 10-15 mins, allowing the remainder of the time for responses to questions via the Zoom chat function.
