Global Phosphorus Security: towards a food and water secure future?

Not Available Not Available Not Available Not AvailablePhosphorus security is emerging as one of the 21st century’s greatest global sustainability challenges. Phosphorus has no substitute in food production and the use of phosphate fertilisers has contributed to feeding billions of people over the last half-century by boosting crop yields. However these advantages have come at a serious cost. Anthropogenic mobilisation of phosphate rock into the environment has not only led to wide-spread nutrient pollution of many of the world’s rivers and oceans, but has created a fundamental human dependence on a single non-renewable resource.
Dr Dana Cordell will highlight the latest research, thinking and action on the challenges and opportunities for food security and ecosystem resilience.
