As cities and health systems worldwide grapple with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and embedding wellbeing into decision-making, Wales offers compelling insights. Its groundbreaking Well-being of Future Generations Act establishes seven wellbeing goals and five ways of working – sustainability, prevention, integration, collaboration and involvement- across all public bodies.
This workshop explores how Health Impact Assessment operates within this transformative governance framework as a practical tool for placing health and equity at the centre of decision-making across sectors, and examines emerging frameworks for building HIA capacity in Australia. Through presentations and panel discussion, we'll explore lessons from Wales and strategies for building the cross-sectoral partnerships and multi-level capacities essential for creating healthier, more equitable Australian cities and health systems that serve current and future generations.
