We Are Not Powerless - Free Screening + Q&A

Join us during World Refugee Week for a special screening of We Are Not Powerless, a moving documentary that shines a spotlight on a remarkable refugee-led education movement.

Following the screening, stay for a special Q&A with UNSW Kaldor Centre's Dr Tristan Harley and Director Muzafar Ali, offering a unique opportunity to hear firsthand about the journey behind the film and the ongoing work of refugee-led initiatives.

About the film

Ten years ago, Muzafar Ali and Nagina Zahra fled the Taliban in Afghanistan, eventually finding themselves living as refugees in Indonesia when Australia’s 'Stop the Boats' policy changes left many in limbo.

Determined to create change, they established a small two-room school. What began as a grassroots effort soon grew into a thriving community hub and is now recognised as one of the most successful refugee-led education initiatives in the world.

We Are Not Powerless tells the powerful story of what can happen when people refuse to give up, choosing instead to work together for hope, dignity, love, and education.

Attendance is free but registration is essential as places are limited.
Doors open from 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start, light refreshments will be provided.
