UNSW Human Rainbow

We are calling for 1,000 people to make UNSW's first - ever Human Rainbow!

Join students, staff, UNSW Alumni and the wider community to make a Human Rainbow down University Mall at UNSW Kensington Campus. The Human Rainbow is a symbol of our solidarity and acceptance for the LGBTIQ+ community here at UNSW and across the world.

Each Faculty/Division is assigned to a specific colour - so rally your students, fellow colleagues and show how inclusive your Faculty/Division is.

A photograph will be taken from above to capture the historic moment as we come together to celebrate the LGBTIQ+ community this Mardi Gras. There will be glitter filled activities and fun to be had afterwards. Did someone say rainbow fairy floss?

Please indicate when you register if you have accessibility requirements and we will place you at an accessible point of the rainbow and/or provide seating if needs be.

Things to remember:

  • Bring your own colour t-shirt and wear dark pants, shorts, skirt etc.
  • Bring your own hat and water bottle in case of hot weather

UNSW Human Rainbow colours by Faculty/Division:

  • Red: Engineering
  • Orange: Arts & Social Sciences / Art & Design
  • Yellow: Divisions, Units, Centres, UNSW Alumni
  • Forest Green: Built Environment / Science / Medicine
  • Dark blue/Navy blue: Business
  • Purple: Law / Canberra

Remember to share the Human Rainbow event with friends, family and ask others to take part in UNSW Mardi Gras History! Let’s step beyond diversity and encourage an inclusive campus where everyone belongs.

Wet weather plan: UNSW Human Rainbow will move to Leighton Hall in the unlikely event of rain.

We acknowledge the Bedegal people, who are the traditional custodians of the land upon which this event takes place.
