Under Southern Skies: Stargazing Evening

Event Update: The weather has other plans for stargazing, but we’re not letting a few clouds get in the way of a good night of astronomy.

Join us for an evening exploring the Universe through astronomy talks, a live Stellarium tour, telescope demonstrations and a pop-up planetarium.

Hear from UNSW astronomers about how we make sense of the night sky, then step inside the planetarium for an immersive journey through the cosmos. You can also get up close with telescopes, learn how they work and chat with astronomers about everything from getting started with amateur astronomy to what's beyond our galaxy.

And if the skies unexpectedly clear? We’ll get the telescopes outside and make the most of it.

Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or just curious about what’s up there, there’s plenty to discover – even if Sydney’s weather has other ideas.

This event is presented by UNSW Science as a part of National Science Week.

ACCESS

Wheelchair Access
The Physics Theatre and Lawn are located at UNSW Sydney's Kensington campus. The closest accessible drop-off point is via Gate 14, Barker Street. More information on getting there can be found via our interactive accessibility map available here.

Assisted Listening
The Physics Theatre has a hearing loop. Patrons wishing to utilise this need to simply switch their hearing aid to the T (Telecoil) setting to pick up on the wireless signal.
 

PUBLIC TRANSPORT & PARKING

The Physics Theatre and Lawn are easily accessible via public transport and the closest light rail stop is UNSW Anzac Parade (L3 line). The closest bus stop is UNSW Gate 14, Barker Street (303) For more information please call the Transport Infoline on 131 500 or visit transportnsw.info.

Free parking is also available in the Barker St Car Park (Gate 14) from 5.30pm. For access to free parking, event patrons must park in the UNSW Permit Holder bays, available on all levels. The Barker St Car Park (Gate 14) parking station is located here. 

Paid casual and visitor parking is offered via the CellOPark App and ‘pay by plate meters’ in all other UNSW car parks. For more information head here.
