ICN Aritst Spotlight featuring Spatula&Barcode presenting: 'Orecchiette - Making Listening'
Spatula&Barcode is the shared professional identity of artists Laurie Beth Clark and Michael Peterson. Since 2008, the team have collaborated with many partners to create projects that explore commensality, conviviality, and criticality. Their work has been seen in museums, theatres, public spaces, and private homes in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, England, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Lateral, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Netherlands, Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay, and the United States. Clark and Peterson also write and publish collaboratively in performance studies, visual culture studies, food studies, and tourism studies, and are professors at the University of Wisconsin where they teach studio classes in time-based media and academic classes on a range of topics in Visual Culture and Performance Studies.
Spatula&Barcode will offer ICN an instance of their playful culinary workshop “Orecchiette”, a portable project that uses the shape of hand-made pasta (“little ears” in Italian) as a metaphor and focal point for listening to each other. With a small group, we gather around a theme and a pile of flour, and hand-shape pasta as we talk. In this iteration of Orecchiette, we will consider the kinds of listening that involve making, or what making as a practice asks of listening.
The event is part of the Intermedial Composition Network's Artist Spotlight for 2026.
