Labs Without Walls – study results
The Labs Without Walls pilot study is an in-house built mobile app-supported study into self-perceptions of age and gender. It utilises a native app running on participants’ personal iPhones to administer daily questionnaires, to administer sensory and cognitive tests, and to collect a range of health and activity data from the participant’s phone and a study-supplied Apple Watch, with data being collected on a custom AWS backend.
This talk will give an overview of how the app interacts with study participants, the architecture of the frontend mobile app and AWS backend, and the processes of running a study on a model with little to no face-to-face interaction, from recruitment through to anonymised data extraction for analysis. It will also discuss how the pilot app was designed to be used for additional studies with minimal changes to the application and backend components.
