Guided Tour: Material Place
Tours of ‘Material Place’ will explore key works, themes and ideas from the exhibition whilst connecting to the history and geography of the Galleries site itself. Drawing on knowledge gleaned from the ‘From Site to Place’ symposium, these programs will connect with Eve Tuck and Marcia Mackenzie’s call to ‘…move beyond understandings of place as neutral background…as a bounded and antiquated concept, or as only physical landscape, to instead theorize and practice place more deeply…’ and ask how contemporary artists challenge generalist and static readings of the Australian landscape.
