During the COVID-19 crisis, rooftops along with balconies became important spaces in daily lives. Whether that be a place to grow some essential greens, connect with nature, or simply breathe some fresh air, we all started to look at these spaces differently.

The transformation of rooftops into more habitable places has been growing in importance over the last decade. Recognition of the importance of transforming these spaces for their potential relating to both environmental and human wellbeing factors is now widely understood and increasingly embraced. Just this month the City of Sydney set the ambitious target of almost doubling the urban greening of buildings in the next 30 years (11-19% by 2050).

Although climatically suited to this technology, Sydney is lagging behind Europe and North America when it comes to greening our rooftops. Join us; as participants from diverse backgrounds, seek to understand the potential research opportunities inherent in this field.
