The Best Australian Science Writing Book Launch
What can mathematics teach us about drug cartels? Why should we care about a failed Soviet mission to Venus at the height of the Cold War? And what is life – do we even know?
For sixteen years, The Best Australian Science Writing has brought together the most riveting, entertaining and thought-provoking stories from Australia’s leading writers, poets and scientists. The 2026 anthology continues that tradition, exploring everything from how a beloved dog could inspire a new cancer treatment to what a humble backyard sprinkler can teach us about life on the driest inhabited continent.
Join Fiona McMillan-Webster, editor of the 2026 anthology, for the official book launch and the announcement of the 2026 Bragg Prize for Science Writing. The evening will feature a lively panel discussion with some of Australia’s leading science communicators, followed by a networking reception celebrating the best of Australian science writing.
Whether you’re a science student, a seasoned researcher or simply curious about the world, this event is for anyone fascinated by science, ideas and the stories that bring them to life.
This event is co-presented by Copyright Agency, UNSW Press and UNSW Science.
