2025 Emerging Scholars Network Annual Workshop
The 2025 Emerging Scholars Network Annual Workshop is co-hosted by UNSW's Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law and Forced Migration Research Network, supported by the School of Social Sciences and the School of Humanities and Languages, and the Faculty of Law & Justice, at UNSW Sydney. This hybrid event will be held on Friday 24 October in Sydney, Australia.
The Emerging Scholars Network Annual Workshop will be preceded by a free skills workshop on Wednesday 22 October from 3.00-5.00pm, and the 2025 Kaldor Centre Conference on Thursday 23 October.

Skills Workshop: Designing and Showcasing Research for Community Impact
How can we measure societal impact and engagement? Approaches and Strategies in Dialogue
Led by Professor Emma Kirby, Associate Dean Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement, Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture.
The workshop will:

Enhance participants confidence in identifying, measuring and showcasing community research impacts

Provide participants the opportunity to design and refine their approaches to community engagement and impact
Attendance is free. The workshop will be followed by an informal dinner on Wednesday evening, all welcome!

2025 Kaldor Centre Conference, 'Building bridges: Advancing refugee protection in a divided world'
Refugee protection stands at a crossroads. Displacement is rising. Political divides are deepening. Funding is vanishing. Now more than ever, we need to pause, reflect and forge new paths forward, together. The 2025 Kaldor Centre Conference focuses on building bridges across sectors, communities and disciplines to strengthen refugee protection in Australia and globally. Morning and afternoon tea, lunch and a networking reception included, with special pricing available for registered ESN Workshop attendees. This is a separately ticketed event.

Emerging Scholars Network Annual Workshop
This full-day, hybrid workshop will feature emerging scholars showcasing new and original research. It is an opportunity to hear about work in progress and connect with a diverse range of researchers from around the world working in the field of refugee and forced migration studies. The workshop will be run in person at the UNSW Faculty of Law & Justice in Sydney. For participants who are unable to travel to the workshop, there is the opportunity for virtual attendance.
There are limited in-person tickets available and a small ticketing cost is included to help cover some of the catering costs for in-person attendance. However, should this cost be a barrier for you, please feel free to contact the Kaldor Centre as we want to make sure everyone has equal opportunity to attend.
