Community Day FAQ's

General Event Info

Who can attend?
Community Day is for UNSW professional and academic staff. Staff are welcome to bring family and friends to enjoy the celebrations.

Do I need a ticket?
This event is free to attend, but we do request that you register so that we can account for numbers on the day. 

Where is the event located?
Community Day is at a new location this year: the Lower Campus - on Helen Maguire Lawn (formerly the Quad) and in and around Alumni Park. You can find a map of the event site here.

Will the event run in the rain?
The event will proceed in light rain, don't forget your rain jacket! Some activities may need to change location. Please keep an eye on your emails for any updates.

Is this event child-friendly?
We take pride in the event being family-friendly and inclusive, but please note, due to licensing laws, under-18s must be supervised at all times.

How long will the food and drinks be available?
There will be plenty of food for everyone across the 3-hour event. The bar will close at 6.45pm.

I have specific dietary requirements; will I be catered for?
We’re endeavouring to provide for a variety of dietary considerations. The following dietary options will be available:

  • Gluten-free
  • Dairy-free
  • Halal
  • Nut-free
  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan

Please check the menus at each food truck for a list of dietary offerings.

Will there be alcohol?
Yes, a limited range of alcoholic beverages will be available from the bar near the main stage. You will need to show your UNSW staff ID card to be served. 

Can I bring my pet to Community Day?
UNSW supports registered assistance animals on campus; however, all other pets are not permitted on site.

What should I bring?
Community Day is an outdoor, all-weather event. Bring your sunscreen, hat, a reusable water bottle, comfortable shoes and wet weather gear if necessary. And don’t forget your staff ID card!

Is photography allowed?
Yes! We encourage you to share snaps from the day, including your photos from the Community Day photobooth. There will also be two official photographers capturing the event throughout the day.

Travel & Amenity

What public transport options are available?
The Kensington campus is accessible by light rail and bus. The campus also has bike parking.

Where can I park?
All Kensington campus parking stations will be open. Entry after 3pm is free of charge. More information about parking on campus can be found here.

I work at the Paddington campus; how do I get to Community Day?
The UNSW shuttle bus service will be operating. A link to the timetable can be found here.

Will there be water on site?
There will be water stations on site. Please bring your reusable bottle for refills. To reduce single-use plastic, water bottles will not be provided.

Will there be toilets?
Onsite campus facilities will be available. The locations will be marked on the site map

Is a parents/carers room available?
Yes, this room is on the basement level of the Science and Engineering Building and is indicated on the event map.

Will there be security?
Yes, there will be campus security for the event.
 

Accessibility

Where is the accessible drop off point?
The closest accessible drop off point to Alumni Park is via Gate 2, High Street. More information on getting there can be found via our interactive map available here.

What accessibility options are available?
UNSW is committed to making our events inclusive and accessible. Key considerations have included:

  • Accessible pathways throughout the event site. 
  • A Quiet Room is available for attendees, providing a calm space with sensory items for anyone who might benefit from a quieter environment. You can find it at Helen Maguire Lawn in G048. Please ask our friendly event staff for directions.
  • For guests who are deaf, hard of hearing or have auditory sensitivity, the Silent Disco has an option to "Feel the Beat" for an immersive experience. Haptic vests will be available to wear so users can feel the music.

Hidden Disabilities
UNSW is proud to be a part of the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network. The Hidden Disability Sunflower is a tool to voluntarily share that you have a hidden disability. By wearing a Sunflower, you're just letting our staff know that you might need extra help, understanding, or just more time. Our security and event staff team at UNSW are trained to recognise the Hidden Disability Sunflower and assist where needed.
